Stolen Seas
Tales of Somali Piracy
Stolen Seas is a feature length film, and an eye opening refutation of preconceived ideas on how and why piracy has become the world's most frightening multi-million dollar growth industry.
Alongside Diamond Docs (The Cove) and Species Being Films with Director Thymaya Payne, I produced this Winner of the Palm Springs Film Fest's 2013 Best Debut Feature Documentary, and the 2012 Boccalino d'Oro for Best Film at Locarno International Film Fest in collaboration with Thymaya, Andrew Walker and Andre Lascaris.
The film was theatrically released in 10 US cities, and has been broadcast on DirecTVs Audience Channel, as well as on the CBC's Passionate Eye. After being featured as a weekend pick, Stolen Seas ranked as the #2 watched documentary in the US iTunes store for 3 consecutive weeks, and was part of January 2014's top 15 most watched films on Netflix US. The film can also be watched on Vimeo as well as iTunes.
Stolen Seas also screened at the 2012 Mumbai, Rio and Stockholm International Film Festivals, at Hot Docs Doc Soup and its 2017 Ban This Series to sold out audiences.
